Chopin gives Edna a mixture of personalities. She is at foremost portrayed as obedient, and a doting wife, who spends her time cipher on her family and her duties as a housewife. As we get to hump Edna more, we find that she had a bit of a rebellious rill in her, and that she is a pissed independent woman who decides to see her life doing what she wants, when she wants, without regards to whom she is hurting with her sweet behavior.
The other women in the disc portray different parts of Creole women, yet at the same time, they all have characteristics similar to Edna. Some be very dedicated wives, who thrive on society, taking parcel out of their family and dont break that mold. Then there ar other women who are very independent, and many people think that they are crazy, even if they have an amazing talent, that is often overlooked due to their apprehension to be a part of the average.
Because Edna comes from Kentucky, her first form of acting out is in her labor union to Leonce. She went against the type of man her father and sister Margaret treasured her to marry. She is laggard in a world of high society in a big town where everyone have a go at its everyone, and everything you do is talked about, discussed and part of day-by-day life.

However, I feel that if Edna was this strong willed independent person, she wouldnt pull out herself to marry a man, just to spite her father and sisters. We know she had fleeting crushes on men prior to Leonce, so why didnt she wait for a man she truly cherished to be with, without having to give a part of herself up? She wanted to be a free spirit, and do her paintings, she should have through that. She stated she had her own money, so she could have been a strong independent woman and just moved to a new city on her own. Maybe part of her needed somebody to help her realize that was possible, or maybe she grew fond of Leonce.
