A good argumentative essay topic
is considered to have two conflicting elements that almost have the
same weight but have diverse conclusions. There are several steps
that one needs to monitor before he writes a comprehensive essay
topic. One of the elements is the planning stage where the student or
the writer must take few minutes to plan how he/she wants to write
the argumentative essay. This is important because argumentative
essay requires comprehensive research in order to come up with points
that are liable in supporting the arguments that the writer has
stated.
The second element
is finding the best suitable relevant topic that is neither too
difficult nor easy and the student has vast interest on it. In some
settings the students are given the argumentative essay topic to go
and develop. The argumentative essay topic must have two conflicting
sides; scholars argue out that the writer should have strong interest
on the topic, but they should not be interested enough on the topic.
This is to justify that the writer must not show clearly which side
he belongs at the beginning of the essay, but eventually must take
one position which he/she can back up with quantifiable reasoning as
well as evidence. The writer must be able to show belief in the
argumentative topic but essentially, he/she must quantify why the
belief is so much reasonable and what logic does the belief has in
order for it to be so convincing to the audience.
It is highly potent
that while a writer or a student makes a list or identifies the
topics that he/she consider worth undertaking, a mental back-up of
points in each essay topic must be realized so that the best topic
with most points is chosen while the rest are eliminated. The writer
must therefore be judgmental and acknowledge the evidence for or
against a particular topic so in order for him/her to come up with
the most suitable topic which will be easy for him/her to develop.
The third element is
to consider the pros and cons of the topic and take a solid position.
Once the writer has selected a topic that he/she feels strongly
about, he or she is justified to make a list of both side of the
argument and decide on the side that he feels more comfortable to
support. Argumentative essay topics are always very tricky in that it
reaches a time when the side that you as a writer believe is wrong
has more points than the side that you support, or when the points
are equally weighty and it’s hard to decide on which side to take.
It is therefore prudent if the writer takes the stand from the start
and never hesitates to withdraw from the side however how weighty
points the side that you don’t believe in has.
